Lipstick Collection: Red Carpet

Colorburst Balm Stain Romantic//Apocalips Bang Bang//Velvetine Red Velvet//MUA Luxe Lacquer Atomic//E.L.F Lip Stain Crimson Crush//The Body Shop Colour Crush 101//MAC Viva Glam Rhianna//MAC Maleficent True Loves Kiss//The Body Shop 125
Red lips are the ultimate make up accessory for me so it's no wonder that it's my largest colour collection. I try to stick to blue toned blues as they suit me more, but sometimes it's hard to tell what the undertones are!
EDIT: Just spotted the spelling error, sorry!
Revlon Colorburst Balm Stain in Romantic was one of my latest purchases. It has buildable coverage and gives a nice glossy finish, perfect for daytime.

Apocalips Bang Bang gives a high impact, glossy coverage, perfect for those nights you want your lips to be a statement.

There's just something about the LimeCrime Velvetine in Red Velvet that gives the ultimate red lip. It's bright, it's sharp and it stands out. I love the long lasting finish and I'm more than happy to pay the price.

MUA Velvet Lacquer Atomic is a nice dupe of Red Velvet. It's a lot more plum toned, but dries to a matte finish and lasts a good 2-3 hours without budging.

Another product that won't break the band is the E.L.F Lip Stain in Crimson Crush. As my lips are naturally red it looks really natural but gives my lips a little oomph that lasts all day.

The Body Shop Colour Crush 101 gives a long lasting blue toned look. This is probably the lipstick I wear the most

As soon as I got an email about the launch of the Rhianna collection for MAC, I went on the website and ordered the lipstick as I knew how quickly it would sell out. Fortunately it's being kept on the website, so it's still available! It has a lovely frosted finish that makes your lips really stand out.

Again, as soon as I got the MAC Maleficent email, I ordered the lipstick before it sold out. It's quite a deep red and has a great shine to it. The name of the lipstick "True Loves Kiss" is so fitting to the theme of the movie, which was SO emotional, FYI.

The last lipstick in my collection is The Body Shops Colour Crush in 125. It's a lot darker and slightly red toned that in the photo, making for a killer vamp pout. I probably wear this the least, as I'm so pale I tend to stay away from dark lip colours!

Hopefully you've enjoyed my collection posts! Since I made these I've already bought about 5 more lip products, oops! It's a slight addiction...

Lipstick Collection: Pretty In Pink

The Body Shop Colour Crush 205//LimeCrime Velvetine Pink Velvet//The Body Shop Colour Crush 201//Rimmel Apocalips Apocaliptic//MAC Lickable//MAC Dynamo Lip Pencil

I didn't think I had more than three pink lipsticks when I saw this, but I guess I really am a lipstick addict! To be honest lining these up made me realise that I only ever buy raspberry pink lipsticks, I think I may need to expand my collection to different shades.

The lightest pink lipstick I have is The Body Shop's Colour Crush lipstick in 205(*). It starts of with a lot of shine which wears away to a long lasting matte finish.

Velvetines are known as being the ultimate long lasting lip product, they give such a high pigmentation and a matte finish.

The other pink Body Shop lippy I own is 201, which is a much deeper raspberry shade. Again, it goes on with a shine and wears off to a matte finish.

When I'm feeling a bit fancy I wear Rimmel Apocalips in Apocaliptic on top of one of my other lipsticks for that glossy finish. I normally team it up with 201 or my Velvetine for the perfect pout.

When I saw MAC Lickable I couldn't wait until I had 6 empties for the Back To MAC scheme, I had to have it straight away. It's quite a thick texture but on many occasions I've gone to bed after a night out and only bothered to take off my foundation before bed, waking up with lips in perfect tact!

I never really bother with lip liners, but Jenyth gave me MACs Dynamo lip pencil, which looks quite peachy in the photo but acts as a great base for all my pink lipsticks.

Do you tend to stick to one shade of lipstick or try out many? What's your favourite lip brand?

Lipstick Collection: Coral Crush

Rimmel Apocalips Stellar//Rimmel Kate Moss Matte 110//MAC Dreaming Dahlia//Revlon Colorburst Matte Audacious

The second installment of my Lipstick Collection is undoubtedly my current favourite. This season I'm all about coral, whether it's lipstick or blush!

Whoops, just noticed I spelt Colorburst wrong here, apologies!

Starting with the most red toned of the coral lipsticks with have Rimmels Apocalips in Stellar. Out of the three shades I own stellar has always been my favourite, it's not too bright but still stands out.

Next we have the Rimmel Kate Moss Matte lipstick in 110. When I first bought this I wasn't too sure about it as I'd never tried a matte lipstick before and worried it would dry out my lips. However, it is long lasting and as long as I've applied lip balm before, it doesn't dry out my lips too badly!

For being a huge MAC fan, I've actually not been in the Aberdeen store all that often. One of the first times I went in was with my mum, who treated me to Dreaming Dahlia from the A Fantasy Of Flowers range. It's quite peachy, meaning it doesn't make me look ridiculously pale when I wear it and it has an amazing shine.

Lastly, we have one of my most recent make up purchases, the Revlon Colorburst Matte lip crayon in Audacious. One lunch time I went to Boots with one of my work friends Eilidh. She pointed the range out to me after I mentioned I missed the Just Bitten felt pen style lip stains and told me these lastest just as long. About a week later I went back and bought this one after trying it on that day. I've worn it almost every day that i've worn a lip colour in the past 3 weeks and it really does last hours.

What shade of lipstick are you digging this summer? Do you prefer something with shine or something a bit more matte?

Lipstick Collection: Berry Nice

MAC New York Apple//MAC Viva Glam IV//E.L.F Lip Stain Berry Blush

I've been thinking about doing this series for a long time now, but photographing lipsticks is just so tedious! After my recent spur of blogsperation I decided to get my butt in gear and get this series going. So sorry to any readers who aren't interested in lipsticks, this is going to be my blog for the next few weeks!

I decided to start with the collection I have least colours of, which is the Berry shades. In my photo's you can see these lipsticks do have a lot of red undertones, but when they're on they give a lovely deep berry colour. I chose New York Apple as my first Back To MAC lipstick when I was in Edinburgh for Jenyth's 21st, only to discover she had chosen the exact same one! We also both snap chatted each other when the Rhianna Viva Glam edition came out as we had both ordered the first day it launched- great minds think alike indeed!

MAC Viva Glam IV was the first MAC lipstick I owned, given to me as a Secret Santa present from my lovely friend Alison. It's wound up almost the full way in the photo, almost time to replace it!

As you can see my E.L.F lip stain is starting to dry out, but I've had it for about 6 months so it's lasted a good while! I use it underneath the other two lipsticks to create a nice base to help them last.

What was your first lipstick? Do you still have it?

A Ginger In Aberdeen: Cup Café

Anyone who knows me will easily be able to tell you how much I love food and that I spend a good 90% of the day complaining that I'm hungry. I've been thinking of having a blog section dedicated to cafes and restaurants in my local town, but I'm still a little embarrassed about whapping out my phone and taking photos of my food in front of everyone. Sure, it's acceptable on holiday, but I feel like it's still a little weird here.

One of my favourite cafés in Aberdeen has to be Cup, on Little Belmont Street. From the kitsch decor (I get extremely jealous when someone has a fancier teapot than myself), to the huge array of tea flavours, Cup ticks all the boxes in the "adorable" category. I'm a bit of a sucker for flavoured tea and the newish addition of flowering tea just about had me widdling with excitement.

One of the walls has a massive mural of the world on it in blue and white, which I tried to take a sly photo of, but ended up with a blurry mess. The wall with the door is full of tea inspired quotes in frames, I don't think I've even read them all yet! The toilets have an Alice In Wonderland theme going on with quotes on the walls, as well as a little guest book that seems to be almost exclusively children's notes, it's a nice little read.

Cup offers everything you expect a café to, waffles to afternoon tea, panini's to tiny macaroons and, as mentioned before, SO MUCH TEA! They even have little tester tea that you can try a few sips of, as well as a massive fishbowl style container of lemon water. All of this is reasonably priced and as you can see from the photo above, it's a hearty portion! On the left I have a "Little Veggie Breakfast" as I learned my lesson last time when I bought the full sized veggie breakfast and almost had to be rolled out of the vicinity. Then we have a panini, which comes with salad, a taster soup and tortilla chips. On my last visit I couldn't resist the strawberry and cream waffles and my mum had the lemon meringue pie.

As a vegetarian, I sometimes find it hard to find cafés that offer more than just plain ol' cheese and tomato/onion, so I'm delighted at the many options Cup has! My favourite lunch is a Port Salut and Basil Mayo panini and maybe a cheeky scone with cream and jam. There's also a refried bean and guacamole option that I'm tempted to try next time, just to mix things up a bit!

Although it can be busy at times, if you can snag a seat I would highly recommend visiting Cup. I also hear that it's amazing for hungover breakfasts - Cheers for that tip Erin ;)

Summer 2014 Wishlist

I realised last week that I hadn't uploaded a summer wishlist yet- more to the point, I realised I didn't really HAVE a wishlist. I racked my brain and thought of a few items that aren't exactly summery (hey, I've already been on holiday to a hot country!), but I still lust after.

It's not very often that I shop for clothes, but I still follow fashion and slowly make lists of items I want. I'm forever in wet look leggings but I've never gotten round to purchasing a pair of Disco Pants. I'm quite fussy with how I want them to look, but this pair from BANK Fashion tick all the boxes.

Another more up to date trend I've found myself loving is Skorts. I've been after a nice tailored pair and one of my friends recommended the above pair from Missguided. Along the same lines, I saw a girl on a Saturday night in a lovely mint green playsuit with a skort bottom and a quick Google search found me a similar outfit from SoInFashion.

On the make up side of the wishlist, I've found myself in the Aberdeen MAC store more and more this past couple of weeks. I've been trying on the Cremeblend blush in Something Special. I'm still firmly in a cream blush phase, but I can't find a colour that's perfectly between coral and pink, so I'm hoping this will be a winner.

As I've mentioned before, I currently use Benefits Gimme Brow to give my eyebrows a thicker appearance. I'm not 100% convinced by the thickening fibres claim, so I'm willing to give  MACs Pro Longwear Brow Set a go. With an extra 2g for £4 cheaper, it's hard to resist.

The last item on my wishlist is probably the item I'll purchase first. I was recently at IKEA for a Catwalk and my mum came with me to have a nosey. Once the show was over, she showed me a set of drawers that would be perfect for storing my make up kit. My small plastic storage set is already too small as my foundation range has gotten bigger and the graduation in drawer size is perfect for different products. Hopefully in the next few weeks we can drive down to IKEA and pick it up along with another few items!

What items do you have in your summer wishlist? If you're going on holiday, I hope there is at least 3 bikini's on that list ;)

How To: Melting Lipsticks Into A Palette

As I've been starting out in make up, I've had to travel to Glasgow a lot for call outs. I'm not overly confident with driving outside of Aberdeen so I take the train or bus, meaning I need to travel as lightly and compact as possible. I decant foundations into 10ml eye dropper bottles and melt my lipsticks into empty palettes to save space and extra weight. Although it's pretty simple, I wasn't 100% sure how to melt lipsticks, so I figured writing a guide might help a person or two!

I was originally looking at pill boxes to melt lipsticks into, but a quick browse on Ebay found me a good deal on empty eyeshadow palettes with pans, which I decided are just as good, especially since they're flatter and easier to fit into set bags.

Things You Will Need:

Lipsticks (duh)
An Empty Palette
A Candle (I'm using a unscented soy candle)
A Lighter
A Metal Spoon
A Knife
Tissue Paper/Newspaper (I use a lot, as you'll see I'm incredibly messy)

If the lipstick has a sticker on the bottom, I like to peel it off and stick it onto the base of the pan so I can be sure which colour it is. It's useful to hold the lipstick over the candle for a few seconds to melt the glue and make peeling easier. Hold the lipstick a good few inches above the flame to avoid burning the sticker! If the lipstick doesn't have a sticker or it's too big, I just use a permanent marker to write the brand and shade on the bottom.

Step One

Light your candle and set out an empty pan on a sheet of tissue paper. Open your lipstick and cut off however much you think you will need to fill the pan, For most lipsticks I find about 2/3 fill these particular pans, although for the Bourjois ones in the first photo I only needed half. It's easier to have too little and add more than to have too much, so if you're not sure take it slow!

Step Two

Put the lipstick on the spoon and hold a few inches above the flame. Don't be tempted to put it too close as it will burn the lipstick. If you see any smoke or discolouration then hold the spoon higher. Also, the spoon heats up quite a lot, so make sure you're holding the end of the handle to avoid burning your hand. It takes a minute or so for the lipsticks to melt, so I usually get bored and end up with a nice big lump still in the middle when I pour it into the pan.

Step Three

One the lipstick is melted, carefully pour the liquid into the pan. The pan will heat up if it's metal so give it a few minutes to set and cool before you move it. Once the spoon is cooled, wipe off the excess lipstick and move on to the next!

So far I have three palettes but I hope to expand my collection to have one for Nudes, Pinks, Reds, Purples and Brights. Dream big, amiright?!

Do you have any handy ways to condense your make up? If so, share it in the comment box below!

June Favourites

I'm going to be completely honest, I actually forgot it was the start of the month until I saw other bloggers posting their June Favourites! My life's still pretty hectic now that I'm back from Corfu, but I managed to pull together some items I've been loving!

I only started using Yankee candles in May after buying a few of the votives, but I'm already addicted! I love foodie smells, especially the Salted Caramel and Fireside Treats. I bought the tea lights when the Aberdeen store first opened as they didn't have the votives. In Corfu I bought a cute olive wood tealight candle holder with a turtle on it, so I'll be burning them non stop!

I'm probably one of the very few people on this world who isn't a big fan of Real Techniques brushes. I have two of the sets and I only use the Contour Brush! I happened to use it for a catwalk I was working before deciding I preferred it to the flat topped brush I usually go for. It gives a precise application and is soft enough to blend out harsh lines.

It seems like I spend more and more time in MAC. I'm completely enamoured by the lipsticks and although I'm not normally big on the Cremesheen finish, I've replaced my "bag lipstick" with Toying Around from the Playland Collection. I do find I have to give my lips a good scuff as the formula clings to any dry patches. It's quite bright on it's own, or worn on top of a beige lipliner for a more toned down effect.

Another MAC product I've discovered this month is the Volcanic Ash Exfoliator. I kindly got a sample from the store and even though I've only used it a couple of times, I can already see how effective it is. It's quite abrasive but lathers a little and starts to emulsify to cleanse the face. As I have an oily skin type I get visibly clogged pores, which are almost completely cleared out after one use.

What have you been reaching for most this month? Have you been trying new products for summer?
