A Ginger (Or Two) In Glasgow || NARS and Laura Mercier

I've been to Glasgow three times this month, but the first time was for Scott's bands gig and the second a wedding, so I decided to take the opportunity of a week off to go back down for a bit of shopping. Erin is from Greenock and was home for the weekend which made it even better, so her mum kindly booked us lunch at The Social as well!

The main reason I wanted to take a trip to Glasgow is to scope out NARS and Laura Mercier before the wedding trial I'm doing later this week. I've had my eye on NARS Sheer Glow for a long while now (link) so I decided to treat myself with the usual promise of using it in my kit. Erin met me from the train station and we made a beeline to House Of Fraser. NARS and Laura Mercier just so happened to have their counters right next to each other (although maybe too close, there was no room for more than one person to browse at a time) so I didn't have to waste any time.

There was no one at the Laura Mercier counter when we first went over so I started looking at NARS. After 5 minutes of browsing and annoying the staff with millions of awkward questions, I decided on Mont Blanc for the shade of Sheer Glow. I think it's a little too dark for my skin (I have tan on from the wedding so couldn't really try it out), but the lighter shade Siberia looked far too yellow, even though it is meant to be neutral toned. I also wanted to try the All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation is it sounded good for bridal, but Mont Blanc was out of stock. The counter staff were extremely generous and gave me samples of Fiji and Deauville to try out instead, which made me a happy bunny.

By the time I had decided what to get from NARS, Laura Mercier had staff members kicking about, as well as a few customers. It took a bit of a while to get in to the counter to look at everything, but once I'd had a play about I decided on Flax and Cotton Eye Base (I want Wheat and Linen next time), Cashmere eyeshadow and Starlight Loose Powder. Unfortunately Starlight was out of stock and although I was offered Candlelight, I just found it to be too shimmery.

In all honesty, I was a bit disappointed by the counters! The NARS counter needed maintained, especially the lip pencils which were dirty and needed sharpened. The Laura Mercier counter was just so packed in that it was hard to look at anything if someone was already standing in front of the make up. Maybe I'm just being fussy, but I'd expect more from such high class brands?

This post has gotten a little long, so I'll leave lunch at The Social for next time! Check back on Wednesday to hear about the service (hint, it wasn't that good!)

Have you ever shopped at either of these brands? What did you think? If you have any product recommendations, let me know!
