May Degustabox

May Degustabox

May Degustabox

This months Degustabox was probably the first one I wasn't totally enamoured by. It's still a great box, but there just wasn't much that made me go 'Ooooh.'

In the meal section, there are two packs of So StirFry from Maggies. It comes with noodles and a seasoning kit, sort of like a more up market version of supernoodles.
Next, there is Slim Pasta Lasagna. This one I'm a little apprehensive of, as it feels like a massive ball of pasta. It is gluten, fat and sugar free, which is pretty good!
There is a bag of Schwarts Marinade in a Bag, which is pretty interesting. You just shove your meat or veg into the bag for 30 minutes and then it's ready to cook.
I've seen Fuel Your 10k Hours in ASDA and it always catches my eyes, so I was excited to try out the Protibricks. I'm a little disappointed that they didn't seem to give me much energy, but I'll keep having them in the morning to see if it improves.
The box also had Sweet Baby Rays Honey Barbecue Sauce and Sarsons vinegar, which are pretty started but good additions!

The item that got me most excited was StroopWafels. There were SO many packs of these in our houseboat in Amsterdam and it brought back all the memories -  mainly of feeding birds out our window! The box suggests warming them up over your mug of hot drink, genius!
There were also Fruity 7Bars, which I had also seen but never tried. They're very seedy, taste great and give me heaps of energy! I've been having them about half an hour before my runs and I think it had made a difference.

The only drink that was in the box this month was Kids Green Coco Juice & Banana. It tasted like banana bread, which I couldn't decide if I liked!

What has been your favourite item this month?

Banchory || Birdhouse Cafe

Birdhouse Cafe Banchory

Whenever I have a Sunday off work, I try to make some sort of hillwalking plan with Scott. We usually go up Bennachie, but my mum suggested Scolty Hill in Banchory, so this weekend we decided to give it a go. We went to the Birdhouse Cafe on the High Street in Banchory for a bite to eat first.

Birdhouse Cafe Banchory

The Birdhouse Cafe is a small, kitsch cafe with lots of cute little decorations. There was of course, a small birdhouse outside the door of the cafe, with little bird ornaments inside. The menus have a Tin Tin comic on the front which was a lovely touch. There are a selection of breakfast options, sandwiches, coffees, teas and hot chocolates. Obviously, there were also plenty of cakes and muffins to choose from at the counter!

Although there were only two veggie sandwiches on the menu, most of the options could easily be made into a veggie version without much hassle, which is always nice to see. I chose the Mozzarella, Tomato and Pesto sandwich - toasted, obviously! I also had a Mocha and Scott had a Hot Chocolate, both of which were made from real chocolate. They took a little longer than a standard coffee to come, which is expected when real chocolate is involved.

The sandwiches came with a side salad and crisps, making it a hearty portion. I could of happily stopped there, but since we are seldom in Banchory, cake is obviously a must! I originally had my eye on a Raspberry and White Chocolate cake slice, but when Scott went for the Peanut Butter and Chocolate M&M slice, I changed my mind last minute and got the same. We definitely could have shared one slice of cake, but they both got eaten never less!

Birdhouse Cafe Banchory

The main thing that made the Birdhouse Cafe stand out from any other cafe I've been to was the atmosphere. The staff were all extremely cheery and chatty, but what struck me was how many regulars came in. It seemed like every second person was a regular, stopping to chat for a few minutes with the staff while they got their order. I don't think I've been in a cafe where it's been so obvious that there are regulars, who the staff recognise and catch up with. It gave the cafe a lovely touch, making the already warm atmosphere positivly glow.

Have you ever visited the Birdhouse Cafe? What did you have?

Simple Pleated Updo

Pleated Up Do

I've started to wear my hair down less and less, as it gets in my way at work. Most of the time I shove it up in a bun or in my banana clip, but I've decided to make more of an effort and try up out different looks. For my friends ball, I created a simple up do from four pleats.

I wanted the pleat to look as messy as possible, so I started by sectioning the hair into four sections and adding texturising powder. Then, I pleated the two sections at the front into loose pleats and pulled the pleats a little to create a nice messy effect. I pleated the back sections by pulling them forward towards the front of the head, to make it more even and easier to pin back.

Then, all that was left to do was to cross the two back pleats over and pin them at the back of the head, then place the two front pleats over the top. I pinned the ends of the pleats under the hair and pulled it a little more to keep up the messy theme!

What's your go to up do? Do you keep it nice and simple or experiment with different looks?

MAC Wash And Dry Collection

MAC Wash And Dry Review

There's something about limited edition products with swanky packaging that are hard to resist. MAC's most recent collection, Wash and Dry has beautiful heat-wave style packaging with a glossy finish. There are plenty of products to choose from, with a whole brow selection, brushes, lipsticks, glosses, powders and liners.

As a big contouring fan, I couldn't resist the 125SE Brush. It has duo fibres on opposite sides of the brush, meaning you get both a sharp and blended effect in just one sweep. It's perfect for sculpting the cheekbones, jaw and temples for a killer contour.

The Tumble Dry lipstick isn't something I'd usually choose as it has a lustre finish, but the colour makes my lips look full and I decided to give it a go. It's the perfect summer coral for those days where you want something sheer. I usually team it up with a soft pink liner to give it a more peach effect.

Press On Nails || Pretty Little Polish

Pretty Little Polish

Recently I saw a girl with minion nails, which I thought were really cool. When I complimented her on them, she told me she makes them herself and has an Etsy shop, PrettyLittlePolish. I couldn't resist having a peek, I constantly buy false nails from Boots and stick them on, so I don't mind paying a little more for cool designs!

I immediately fell in love with the Dachshund nails and the Galaxy Nails. I've never had pointed nails before, but I liked the nail design so I was willing to give them a go. My nail bed is quite far up my fingers, so my nails look pretty stubby and fat, which didn't look good with the pointed nails at all. I did really like the Dachshund design, so after a quick email to Rowan, I got a square set and was also kindly send a cute flower set! I'm saving the flower set for an upcoming wedding, although I did almost stick them on tonight.

Pretty Little Polish

You can use adhesive nail stickers or glue to stick on the nails. They're super duper strong, much better than drugstore stick ons, but can be removed and re worn as long as you're careful and patient. As my nails are such an awkward shape and length, the part of the nails that sticks onto the nail bed looks a little funny, but not enough to notice from afar! For my work, I have to file them down quite a bit, but they still look mega cute!

There are soo many of the designs I want to try out, but for now I feel pretty damn fancy with the three sets I currently have! Do you ever use stick on nails?
