My First Time Pumpkin Carving

Skyrim Pumpkin

Skyrim Pumpkin

I'm not a massive "holiday" fan, but if  I ever have to choose a favourite, I always go for Halloween. I actually don't have a reason behind it, it's just always been my answer! I do love a good fancy dress party and it's the only way I actually celebrate Halloween, so I guess that's why. This year, I've bought an outfit - Anna from Frozen, duh - but I don't actually have any plans to go out. So the most Halloween-esque thing I've been up to is pumpkin carving!

I've never carved a pumpkin before, but today myself and Scott decided to give it a go. I chose a little round pumpkin and Scott went for a much bigger one, which I soon learned was the better tactic! I did the honours of cutting open the the tops and scooping out the insides, before we settled down to draw on our designs and give the pumpkin carving game a go.

Scott chose a traditional spooky pumpkin face, but I decided to dive straight into the deep end and attempt the Skyrim dragon emblem. I googled the emblem and drew it as neatly as I could on the pumpkin. In hindsight I drew it too narrow, making a lot of the design very flimsy and hard to cut around.

The actual carving was surprisingly easy and I think I did ok for my first attempt! What do you guys think? Have you carved a pumpkin this year?

The Body Shop || New Purchases

The Body Shop Spa of The World

The Body Shop Spa of The World

The Body Shop Spa of The World

I usually wait for a discount code to buy anything from The Body Shop, as they regularly have deals in store and up to 40% off with vouchercloud/email codes. But, I wanted to have a look at the Spa of The World and Oils of Life ranges, especially since they decided to bring back the Ximena Scrub!

For those of you who haven't tried the Ximena Scrub before, I highly recommend it. I love a good abrasive scrub and it delivers just that. The old consistency was a little too dry, so I'm happy that they've made it more runny! The new packaging is also gorgeous and a lot less clumsy. In fact, The Body Shop has really upped it's game with product packagining, many have a much more luxurious feel and look sleek. I'm also tempted to give the new charcoal body mask, but I feel like I would get through it far too quickly!

The other product I was curious to see was the Instamatte. I had looked at it on the website and spotted that it can be worn over make up to mattify the skin during the day. This immediately sparked an interest as although my skin gets oily, I also have dry patches so any powder looks clogged and patchy on my skin. Instamatte is a lot more solid and waxy than I expected, so it's a little hard to tell if you've picked up enough product. I'm excited to see if it makes a difference to my make up routine.

When I was browsing the Oils of Life range, I was offered a sample sachet of the Revitalising Face Oil to try out. I gave it a go, but I must say it was extremely oily (I know, I know!) and took ages to sink in. It's definitely more of a night time treatment than something to use is the morning.

The only other thing I needed was more cotton pads, so off I went to the till, to find out I was also getting a scrub and a body butter for free! It was meant to be mango, but they had run out so I got to choose strawberry instead. This is another thing I like about The Body Shop, there's usually some sort of freebie in the mix!

Have you tried any of the new ranges at The Body Shop? Let me know in the comments!

A Hat Full Of Sky || A Story Of Discworld

A Hat Full Of Sky

It's been over a month since I last made a post. For a while I lost interest in blogging, constantly missing out posts, feeling no motivation to create new content and overall just not enjoying blogging as much as I used to. But, after a few people mentioning the fact I hadn't posted in a while, I started to miss blogging. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to write a post! So to ease me back in, here's a little update on what I'm reading.

I recently went to a pub quiz and one of the questions was about Terry Pratchett's A Shepherds Crown, which I hadn't realised was released. I love the Tiffany Aching books so I immediately messaged my mum to see if she had it already. We ordered it shortly after, but since it had been so long I decided that I wanted to re read the series.  I finished the first book, The Wee Free Men, in days, but haven't had much time to delve into A Hat Full of Sky.

The Tiffany Aching books are about a young witch (Tiffany) who lives in The Chalk. She meets the Nac Mac Feegle Clan - a bunch of rowdy, drunk blue men-  on her family's farmland, who become her ally. As a witch she faces many trials, including saving her brother from the Queen of the Elves in Fairyland.

The books were written as young adult books, so they're easy to get through, but not at all too simple or boring!

Have you read any of the Tiffany Aching books? Or any of the Discworld series? Which would you recommend?
