The £7 Make Up Brushes || One Year On

Best Budget Brush Set

Around this time last year I wrote a post about a set of make up brushes for £7 that the blogging world was going crazy about. They're now only £4, so I decided to do a little update about which brushes I still use!

The brush set comes with 10 brushes, 5 large and 5 small to be used around that face. I've kind of abandoned the large brushes as I never use them, mainly because I have other brushes that I prefer to use and that dry much quicker. The Flat Foundation brush came apart in the first month, which I could of use spirit gum to fix, but I ended up just throwing it away as I coped fine without it.

Best Budget Brush Set

I still use all of the smaller brushes, even the Round Eye Brush, which I originally reviewed as being too big. Now I find it perfect for a buffed out shadow in the crease! I use the slanted brushes mainly for blending out dark eyeshadows, the pointed brush for the inner corner  or cut creases and the flat brush for conclealer under the eye.

For £7 - or £4 at the moment - I really can't complain at the fact I don't use the large brushes! I think these are amazing for someone who's just starting out with make up and doesn't want to splash out on brushes they aren't sure they'll use. They give you a good idea of the options for duo fibre brushes, making a perfect starter kit!

MOTD || Copper Smokes

Copper Smoky Eye

Bello! Copper smoky eyes are a something that I've been wearing on a lot recently, with a mixture of different tones and colours.Sometimes I mix in a red shadow, sometimes a pink, or sometimes I straight up just shove some copper pigment all over my eyelids.

This time round, I used a fuchsia pink eyeshadow and patted it all over my lid, then layered a shimmery copper/orange on top. Next I blended out a matte orange in the crease and buffed away with a soft blending brush until the pink and orange blended smoothly. I usually add a flicked liner when I have a smoky eye, but this version is a lot softer than I would normally go for - I usually have it blown out more towards the end of my brows - so I decided a little bit of Kohl in the waterline was enough! I finished off with some soft fluttery false lashes and used a warm bronzer under my cheekbones in place of my usual off grey contour.

What kind of make up have you been wearing recently? I never really know what else to say in MOTD posts so ask any questions in the comments below!

My First Urban Decay Purchases!

Urban Decay

Over the past year I have pretty much stuck to the same make up one, so in 2016 I want to experiment with some new brands. I've been looking at a few different brands on BeautyBay after a lot of recommendations from the girls at work, but that will definitely be next payday, as I've been spending my pennies on the new flat this month! Myself and Scott got some Debenhams vouchers, so I fortunately managed to spend the leftover balance on two Urban Decay products.

Urban Decay

Obviously the item I made a beeline for was the Setting Spray. My nightmare oily-but-with-dry-patches-on-top skin has become pretty much the norm, so to try and keep my skin moisturised I've had to compromise the longevity of my make up on the most oil prone points - my T-zone and chin. I actually meant to get the Chill Setting Spray the website says it keeps a dewy finish, but I guess the sales assistant picked up the wrong one and it's really not the end of the world! I've only tried it a handful of times but I have noticed a difference, as the only place that needs touched up is the tip of my nose, which I must touch a lot! I read a review saying to apply it before using setting powder, which will be my next experiment.

Urban Decay Heavy Metal Eyeliner

I also wanted to pick up the Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner as my darling friend Rebecca uses it as a glitter to add on top of her eyeshadows. My first pick was Distortion, which was out of stock, but I happily substituted it for Glamrock, which will be perfect to put on top of a dark smoky eye. I've previously swatched these on my hand so I know how good the lasting power is, which I love as it beats me patting on loose glitter mixed with Lash Glue (I'm not even slightly sorry!) Hopefully I can get a good photo of this sort of look soon and if I do I'll be sure to add it to this post!

Are the any brands or products you swear by that you recommend I get? I'm not so much looking for eyeshadows as I'm happy with what I have, but anything else I'm open to!

2016 Update || A New Flat and My Dressing Table

2016 Update

Those of you who follow me on Twitter will no doubt have seen that over the festive period I’ve been moving into Scott and I’s first flat. It’s been a busy few weeks between working and moving, but we’re finally all settled in and just waiting on a sofa and the internet being set up!

One of the most exciting parts of moving in has been buying everything for the flat. Even the little things like mugs and cutlery are fun when it’s for your own little space in the world! Then of course, you get to decide exactly where in the flat they go.

2016 Update

My own little space in the flat is my new dressing table, which I got from John Lewis. It has a drawer in the front that is perfect to store all of my make up, in which I’ve used Lakeland drawer trays to keep everything tidy. For Christmas my family got me a No.7 mirror that has a ring light and a magnified side for close up eye make up. I also kindly got a fold out mirror from my friend Rebecca, which fits perfectly on top. I’m still waiting for a 2 drawer bedside table to slot underneath the table, some acrylic drawers to put my everyday items in, as well as getting through a candle or two to use as brush holders!

2016 Update
Featuring our very mature lighter.
I also picked up a bronze tray from The Range when we were shopping for a lot of the items for the flat. As soon as I saw it I knew it would be perfect as a background for blogging photos - I had previously wanted a mirrored tray from H&M but never bought it in time.

What little bits and bobs have you gotten to make wherever you live feel like home? The only thing left to buy for us is decor, but I guess we'll get there over time!
